Medals, finalist rosettes and lots of personal bests in the first day of the Berks & S Bucks County Championships - see gala reports 

There were individual first places for Orla Fawcett, Emily Bench, Florence Copp and Lucy Barton and for the 9 year old girls - Caris Smith, Imogen Scarles, Charlotte Ibbeson & Emily Hogan - in the first round of the league. Overall the team finished third behind Amersham & Maidenhead with Bracknell, Teddington and Slough filling the minor places. 

Charlotte Ibbeson and Jasper Copp were in the medals at Basingstoke. In the 9 year old age group, Charlotte won gold in the 50m and 200m freestyle, the 50m and 200m backstroke and the 100IM and added silver in the 50 breaststroke. In the 13 year age group Jasper won silver in the 50m and 100m fly, the 100mIM and the 200m freestyle.  

After careful consideration of the weather conditions throughout the region it has been decided that the first round of Thames Valley Junior League should be cancelled. 

From 1st January 2010 all competitions in England, Scotland and Wales will be applying the FINA rules in relation to Swimsuits for swimming competitions (excluding Masters and Open Water) .

FINA rules state:
GR 5 SWIMWEAR

GR 5.1 The swimwear (swimsuit, cap and goggles) of all competitors shall be in good moral taste and suitable for the individual sports disciplines and not to carry any symbol which may be considered offensive.

GR 5.2 All swimsuits shall be non transparent.

GR 5.3 The referee of a competition has the authority to exclude any competitor whose swimsuit or body symbols do not comply with this Rule.

BL 8.2 In swimming competitions the competitor must wear only one swimsuit in one or two pieces. No additional items, like arm bands or leg bands shall be regarded as parts of a swimsuit.

BL 8.3 From January 1, 2010 swimwear for men shall not extend above the navel nor below the knee, and for women, shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor shall extend below knee. All swimsuits shall be made from textile materials.

At Oxford Amelia Barton broke the CSC record for 200 freestyle in the 9 year old age group. In Sheffield Will Rea set Club records in the 200IM and 100 fly and added an age 15 record for the 100 freestyle. 

Will Rea and Emily Heslop set meet records at Watford, Emily in the 200 and 400 freestyle and Will in the 400 freestyle and 200 fly. Will's times were also club age 15 and open records. 

Will Rea set 3 club age 15 & open long course records in the 50m and 100m backstroke and the 50m butterfly. Emily Heslop set a club age 11 record in the 100m backstroke. 

Chesham swimmers make a positive start to the league with a club age group record for Emily Heslop and a first place for Jasmin Ballingall.

At the Maxwell Open Meet, 21 swimmers recorded county entry times. Amelia Barton broke 3 club records for a 9 year old. Marcus Johansson broke the club record for the 400IM. 6 swimmers won gold medals; 8 swimmers won silver and 7 swimmers won bronze medals.  

Chesham swimmers recorded 8 wins in the league final finishing 4th overall of the 18 clubs in the division. 

The last sessions before the summer break will be on Sunday 26th July. Club restarts on Wednesday 26th August

Gold medals for Jasper Copp, Jake Bulgin and Emily Heslop at the Barnet Sprint meet. With a further 14 silver and 11 bronze medals, a Club and age group record for William Rea and an age group record for Marcus Johansson, Chesham swimmers finished their short course season in some style. It is with much regret that we have to inform you that Pauline Wilkinson MBE passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Pauline joined the club in June 1989 and had been an active member throughout, coaching and officiating regularly for the club. She was one of our ‘Masters’ and competed regularly to a high level. Pauline will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with her family at this sad and difficult time.

Pauline's funeral will be at St Mary's Church, Chesham at 1.00pm on Tuesday 7th July.   

At the Maxwell Meet Chesham swimmers won 14 gold, 15 silver and 7 bronze medals. In a further 10 events swimmers recorded significant pbs to be awarded 'speeding tickets'. Between them Jasmin Ballingall, Marcus Johansson and Will Rea set 5 Club records and a further age 17 & over record. 

In the second weekend of the SER BAGCAT Championships William Rea continued to excel taking silver in the 200 freestyle with a lifetime best performance which established a new club record for the event. Hannah Dawson  & Christopher P-Neophytou also raced to pbs in the 200 freestyle.

Jasmin Ballingall records a National Qualifying time for the 50m Freestyle! 

Jasmin Ballingall set club age 17 & over and open records in both the 100m & 50m freestyle and William Rea set age 15 records in the 50m & 100m butterfly and in the 100m freestyle at Hatfield over the weekend. Chris P-Neophytou significantly improved his 400m freestyle time and Chloe Parker equalled her 200 freestyle best.

William Rea becomes County Junior Champion at Aldershot. Chloe Parker sets a club age group record and qualifies for SER 

Will Rea became county junior champion in the 100 and 400 freestyle and the 50 fly. Will, Lucy Barton and Jasmin Ballingall won gold in age group events; Emily Curtis, Hannah Dawson, Isabel Brand and Ben Harris were also age group medalists and the 11 & under girls medley team (Sam Bousfield, Lucy Barton, Emily Heslop and Abbey Thornton), Emily Heslop, Hannah Morton, Chloe Parker, Harriet Rose, Anna Heslop, Clare Bartington, Marcus Johansson, Keil Critten and Michael Curtis won finalist rosettes.

Some tough races in the the second round of the Thames Valley Junior League. Well done to the Chesham winners - the 9 year girls medley relay (Florence Copp, Orla Fawcett, Emily Bench and Amelia Barton), Ben Harris in the 11 year 50 freestyle and Lucy Barton in the 11 year 50 breaststroke.

New look club t-shirt                      

Following requests for a quick drying poolside t-shirt we have now found something suitable. The price is £18.00, which includes the Swimmer’s name and our Club logo printed on the front and Club name on the back. At this stage the shirts are at cost price and the club will make no profit.

We are taking orders for the new shirts – just visit the club shop located in the Dance Studio on the Ground Floor of Chesham Leisure Centre. The shop will be open from 5.20pm until 7.30pm where we have a sample of each size for you to try them on.

Congratulations to William Rea & Jasmin Ballingall who recorded pb's and club records when swimming for Berks & S Bucks in the National Inter-County fixture at Ponds Forge. Jasmin set an age 16 and club record for the 100 fly and William broke his own club age 14 record for the 100m freestyle.

Congratulations to both Jasmin Ballingall & Will Rea who both set club records when competing at Nationals in Sheffield at the end of July. Jasmin set a club long course record in the 100m freestyle & Will a club long course record in the 400m freestyle.

Congratulations to Jasmin Ballingall & Will Rea both of whom achieved national qualifying times at Aldershot yesterday. Will qualified first in the 400 freestyle and then Jasmin in the 100 freestyle.

  Club Timekeepers' course

Happy New Year to you all

I am now finalising the list for anyone interested in qualifying as a Club Timekeeper.

Anyone aged 14 years and over may apply.

There will be a 2 ¹/₂ hour theory session, held at Chesham leisure centre, where Brenda will explain what is expected from a Club Timekeeper and one practical session where you will be assessed on your timekeeping for a minimum of 10 races.

We have Personal Challenge starting soon; also some of you are swimming or bringing your child along to a gala in the next few months. Ideal opportunities to be assessed.

The club records for 2007 have now been updated.  

Now available to download. 

In the final round at Waterlooville the Chesham team recorded 9 first places. In individual events Jasmin Ballingall won the 15/under fly & the open freestyle; Emily Curtis won the 15/under breatstroke & William Rea won the 13/under freestyle & fly. The 13/under boys medley team - William Rose, Gregory Thornton, William Rea & Richard Morrison placed first as did the 15/under girls medley & free teams - from: Emily Curtis, Olivia Bailey, Isabel Brand, Jasmin Ballingall, Laura Parker & Sarah Pickin and the girls open freestyle squadron - Jessy Millican, Olivia Bailey, Izy Brand, Jasmin Ballingall, Clare Bartington & Emily Curtis.  

Over the last weekend a group of swimmers competed at Oxford whilst individuals competed in Nuneaton & Sheffield. At Oxford there were golds for Michael Curtis (50m breaststroke), Keil Critten (200m free), Jasmin Ballingall (50m & 100m fly), Emily Curtis (50m Breast) & Rachel Moore (200m Breaststroke). Keil added silver in the 100 fly whilst Jasmin won silver in the 50 free, 100 free & 200IM and bronze in the 200 free & 100 back. Lucy Barton took silvers in the 100 & 200 breaststroke, Laura Parker won silver in the 50 breast and Izy Brand won silver in the 50 free.  Bronze medals went to Marcus Johansson (400 free, 200 free & 100 back), Michael Curtis (400m free), Emily Curtis (200IM & 400 free), Poppy Hatfield (50 fly), Alie Curson (50 breast) & Izy Brand (100 back).
At Nuneaton Sarah Pickin pb'd in the 200 breaststroke & 200 IM. 
In Sheffield, at Ponds Forge (50m pool), William Rea pb'd in 6 out of 7 events.  He won 2 gold & 2 silver medals, set club age group records in 6 events and club open records in the 200 fly, 200 IM & 400 IM.
