Swim 21 is the Amateur Swimming Association's accreditation scheme which demonstrates that a club is providing its members with effective swimming coaching within a safe, well managed club environment. To achieve the Award, the Club has to provide a considerable amount of documentary evidence to show that it has reached and maintains the required standards in all aspects of its operation.
The Club received its first Swim 21 accreditation in May 2004, being the first swimming club in Buckinghamshire to achieve the standard as a Skill Development club. At the same time the Club was also awarded the prestigious Sport England Clubmark.
In order to maintain Swim 21 Club status, the Club has continued to submit an annual Improvement Plan to the ASA and achieved regular revalidation.
In 2007 the ASA introduced a number of changes to the Swim 21 process, to ensure that the scheme was keeping pace with the needs of the sport and in particular the needs of the swimmers. The modules now covered are: Compliance, Workforce Development and Athlete Development - in total 75 elements for which documentary evidence is required!
Over the past twelve months the Club’s Swim 21 Working Group (composed of four members of the Management Committee) met regularly to draw up a completely new submission under the updated scheme, together with a new Improvement Plan for 2008-09.
The submission was considered by the Regional Panel in April 2008 and recommended Accreditation for the Club under the new scheme. We are extremely proud that the National Panel endorsed this recommendation on 28 May 2008.
The Swim 21 Working Group will continue to review the Improvement Plan through the year, in preparation for next year’s annual review.
Please e-mail the Club Secretary if you would like more information, or to see a copy of the current Improvement Plan.
