WEBSITE:
Please visit the Club website and tell us what you think! The aim of the site is to provide information for both current and new members.
The site currently contains useful information, such as a diary of up and coming events, full unedited press reports, squad training times, a copy of wavelength, information on joining the Club, and long and short course Club records.
The site is updated regularly and over the coming months there will be many additions and alterations to the site to improve its look, and to make it more appealing for members to come back to. For example we hope to be able to add more comprehensive gala results to go with the new news section.
Please visit us at www.cheshamswimmingclub.org.uk and feel free to email your comments and suggestions to website@cheshamswimmingclub.org.uk
Attention Parents, Chesham SC needs you!
The Club currently has a membership of 150 - 160 juniors and around 20 masters. While Liz is paid by the Club to organise the coaching of swimmers, she cannot fulfil that role without the willing group of volunteers who give their time to coach your children. Equally children cannot compete at galas without the help of adult volunteers who team manage, officiate and look after the swimmers. The Club itself cannot run without its Management Committee, again all volunteers, who provide the administrative back-up necessary for the Club to function.
In other words where are you and can you help in any way?
The Management Committee is elected each year at the AGM. Each year there are vacancies - inevitable as families grow up and move on to other activities. Can you help? Talk to Mary at the Club Shop or to any other Committee member - names listed on the Club admin notice board beside the Sports Hall.
Have you admin skills that could be used when events like Club Championships take place?
Could you help on poolside?
There are various ways in which you can help, involving varying amounts of knowledge and degrees of commitment. Again talk to a Committee member or to Liz if you are interested. Possibilities include:
Looking after children at galas - At inter club galas adults are needed to supervise the children on the poolside and ensure that they are ready for their races at the right time. Qualities required in the adults are the ability to recognise the correct children, a sense of humour and a positive approach to making them move at the right time.
Becoming a qualified ASA official - Galas can only run if there are enough knowledgeable officials on hand to ensure their smooth running. The Club organises courses for those interested in becoming judges, timekeepers or starters.
Becoming a coach - The most onerous in terms of time and commitment! If you are starting from scratch, the first step is to observe. I know lots of you sit in the gallery spotting all the things that dont look right. The gallery is the best place to see strokes and faults. Consider reading books to learn the theory, consider doing the ASA Assistant Teachers Course, consider coming on poolside to help take a lane. Liz will be happy to assist or advise, the one proviso being that, as far as possible, you should not coach the lane in which your child is swimming - all sorts of reasons for this, not least to avoid charges of nepotism.
