WINTER 2003 EDITION

WEBSITE

Please visit the Club website and tell us what you think! The aim of the site is to provide information for both current and new members.

The site currently contains useful information, such as a diary of up and coming events, full unedited press reports, squad training times, a copy of wavelength, information on joining the Club, and long and short course Club records.

The site is updated weekly and over the coming months there will be many additions and alterations to the site to improve its look, and to make it more appealing for members to come back to. For example we hope to be able to add more comprehensive gala results and a regular news section.

Posting the results of Club Championships proved particularly popular as the site had many hits during the period of the Championships …. or was it the game?

COUNTY AWARD TO LIZ WADDY

At the recent Annual Meeting of the Berkshire & South Bucks ASA, Liz Waddy was presented with the Jubilee Plate, which is awarded annually for exceptional service to the County. In this county the decision is made by the County President alone, and the text of her citation follows:

“This year’s recipient is a coach at one of the county clubs, a qualified swimming official, and also sits on one of our (county) sub committees: the Championships Committee, which has the onerous task of running our Championships and Age Group Competitions. Each year there is one task for the Championships Committee, which is absolutely critical, extremely difficult and each year the goalposts are moved. The job goes on more or less unseen by the competitors and their parents, so perhaps the people responsible do not receive the recognition they merit. My chosen recipient takes on this task every year, sometimes with help, sometimes more or less on her own, but always with an endless supply of post-it notes for moving events round the draft county programme. The recipient works out a draft County Programme, with qualifying times, to fit the ASA wish list, and the water time available, then taken on board all sorts of conflicting comments from the rest of us on the committee, goes away and miraculously finalises a programme and set of qualifying times which work. This is a genuinely exceptional service to the County and, therefore, I am going to present the Plate to Liz Waddy of Chesham Swimming Club”.

We heartily congratulate Liz on this award – we all know how hard she works for our Club, and it is fitting that her efforts for the county should be recognised and rewarded too. The Jubilee Plate looks magnificent in her dining room!
